Electric Bicycle Service and Repairs

Glow Worm Bicycles does all servicing, maintenance and repairs on its range of Wisper and eZeebike electric bicycles. We keep spare parts for all of the e-bikes we sell and make them available to our dealers and customers. Feel free to drop in, email us enquiries or use our online store to order spares.

If you have purchased your electric bicycle from us in Marrickville you are covered by our service warranty so that you won't have to pay for parts or labour in the first year of owning your e-bike except in case of accidents/theft. In the second year most of the major electrical components are still under warranty such as the motor, battery and controllor. If your e-bike is out of warranty then normal workshop rates apply and the price of components can be viewed in the e-bikes spares section of our online store.

We're also a great place to get your electric bicycle mechanically serviced even if was purchased elsewhere, as we are accustomed to dealing with heavier bicycles, have removed coutnless motor wheels and won't rip out pins from plugs by trying to remove a mechanical object without first disconnecting the electrical connectors. Most importantly, we don't turn our nose up at electric bicycles like many shops do! Our bicycle accessories range caters for the needs of transport cyclists and many an e-biker has found some great stuff they needed here. See our workshop prices for mechanical servicing.

However, if you need an electric bicycle fixed that does not work electrically, we may not be able to help you out. Unfortunately this happens frequently enough that we have to point it out here, partly due to the excess of cheap electric bicycles in Australia and the scarcity of good back up service for electric bicycles. If your e-bike:

  1. was purchased from somewhere that never had or no longer has an actual store to take it to
  2. does not have electrical spare parts readily available from the supplier
  3. isn't working (electrically);

then we're afraid to say that we can't fix its electrical problems for you. Chances are it's not a high quality bike with serviceable parts and in any case, if we can't get parts for it, then it's unlikely that we can fix it in a robust way to the standard that we insist on working to, in a time frame that makes for a sensible cost to you. In addition, spare electrical parts are often used as diagnostic tools, as most cheaper e-bikes do not have any inbuilt diagnostics. Not having these parts available makes the job even harder.

Currently the brands of electric bikes that we are happy to work on based on proven experience by the suppliers to provide technical support and spare parts are:

- Gazelle electric bicycles

- Stealth Fighter and Stealth Bomber electric bicycles

If you have a bike that isn't one of these brands and you'd like to bring it in, please call first as we feel bad turning people away who have brought their bikes to us, often from faraway lands. However, if it looks anything like a scooter it's a 'no', we can never find parts. If it's petrol powered we will only change tubes and tyres at the front wheel (not the motorised wheel) and accessories (saddles, grips, cycle computers etc).

Approximations of how much certain things might cost:

Diagnosis and Quote - $75

This is where we figure out what is wrong with the e-bike that is brought in and what is required to get it running and a cost. If it's quite obvious what's wrong then we don't charge or charge less. Please note that we can't guarantee to provide a quote for this service because some e-bikes are just unable to be repaired so there's no sense in providing a quote. This charge is payable upfront. That is, if you don't want to get your e-bike fixed after this service, we still need the $75 for the time taken in diagnosing. It is often one of the hardest things in this game - finding out what is wrong.

General Electrical Service Work - $90/hr

Our service charge on electric bikes is higher than for our regular bicycle repairs. This is because experienced electric bike technicians are very hard to come by in Australia and we have to choose carefully how to use their time. Also e-bike servicing requires a different set of repair and diagnostic tools that don't get used very much. It would be easy enough if it were only the two brands that we stock that need servicing, but when any type of controllor, throttle and motor and e-bike brand can show up it's more complicated.

Typical Parts Costs:

Throttle: ~$50; Controllors: $30-200; Motors: $100-400; Batteries: $300-$800; Lithium battery chargers: ~$150
