E-brake lever Tektro Pair

$75.00 GST inc.

These e-brake levers are made by Tektro and are suitable for disc brakes and V-brakes. They also work for Shimano Roller Brakes, though I suspect they are not the ideal choice. These do not work for hydraulic disc brakes.

These are high quality e-brake levers and boast a very handy feature of removable e-brake sensors. This pair of e-brake levers comes with e-brake sensors already on them, but if you only need the sensors they can be ordered here.

E-brake levers on electric bicycles perform two functions:

1 - they stop the bike as normal, using the same mechanical brake cable and brake caliper (disc, V, whatever) as normal bicycles

2 - they stop the motor from engaging while you are pulling on the brakes.

Function 2, cutting off the motor, has a few uses:

- fool-proofing: As a last resort if the e-bike is going haywire and is stuck on full throttle

- safety: To make sure that no matter what the rider has decided to do with throttles, pedalling etc, all they have to do is pull the brakes and the bike will stop and the motor won't try to fight the brakes

- self-protection: some e-bike riders like to rev their throttle while sitting at a stop with the brakes on. No one really knows why they want to do this but we do know that it places high stress on the motor and should be avoided. E-brakes prevent this behaviour

- Functionality: if your e-bike is on pedal assist mode then the motor will engage when you pedal. There is always a short lag between when you stop pedalling and when the motor decides to stop as well. On some e-bikes this lag is too long (but not on ezeebikes). Having e-brakes means that if it comes on when you didn't expect it or if you immediately need to stop, pulling the brakes will mean the motor cuts out before the lag is over.

E-brake are a legal requirement for electric bicycles in Europe. They are not required in Australia at the moment so they are optional for you to use on your electric bicycle. Although they introduce another potential failure point, we support their usage on electric bicycles. If you have a screwdriver you can always disable them temporarily until you can get them looked at if they are causing some problems on your e-bike.
