Electric Bike Servicing and Repairs

Glow Worm Electric Bikes have a fully equipped workshop designed for electric and cargo bikes. We're here to ensure that your electric bike is regularly serviced to our high standards, or repaired as quickly as possible if you have an unexpected issue. We are also happy to provide advice about maintaining your bike on a regular basis.

We are an authorised dealer for Bosch, Shimano, Bafang & Ezee e-bike systems.

Please contact us in advance (phone, email, text or in-person) to discuss your service needs and to make a booking.

We specialise in electric bikes, and we prioritise pre-booked services. We cannot guarantee on-the-spot repairs (except emergency tube and tyre changes), nor can we work on every bike. We can refer you to other suitable bike shops if we can't work on your bike.

Regular servicing

All electric bikes need regular servicing in order to keep them safe and performing well. We recommend that a regularly used e-bike (especially a commuter or cargo bike) receive a complete general service at least annually by our professional mechanics. A general service includes:

  • Inspection and assessment of bike condition
  • Replacement of worn mechanical parts, including tyres, brake pads, brake rotors, chain and cassette  (additional cost for parts)
  • Checking electrical operation of the bike (battery, motor, display, pedal assist and lights) and replacement of faulty electrical components, including cables, plugs and terminals (additional cost for parts)
  • Drivetrain (chain and gear system) cleaning and lubrication
  • Brake service (for hydraulic disc brakes, this includes cleaning, lubricating and resetting the pistons, hydraulic oil top and possibly a quick or full bleed depending on what is required)
  • Wheel dish and true (to ensure wheels are straight and centred)
  • Bolt check and test ride

Depending on the condition of the bike, more or less labour may be required, and your quote will be adjusted accordingly. We can contact you with a quote before starting a service.

An e-bike may need to be booked in for a service sooner if you are experiencing specific issues such as electrical problems, weak braking or brake noise, difficulties changing gears or repeated tyre punctures. Bikes purchased from us are eliguible for a free three-month minor service after the purchase date to ensure your new ride is working well.

Pricing

Labour pricing for a general service is shown below. The price of your service may be higher if your bike requires replacement parts or additional labour for significant repairs. After inspecting your bike, we can provide a quote for all parts and labour before proceeding with your service. Electric bikes bought from us qualify for a 25% discount off our general service labour fees as part of our Glow Worm VIP program.

Dropping off and collecting your bike

  • Please drop your bike off on its booking day between 9am-10am, or drop it off 1-2 days before. Bikes can also be dropped off or picked up on Saturdays at our Showroom (corner Agar St and Addison Rd,) between 10 am - 3 pm. Service work is completed on weekdays.
  • Please allow about 5 minutes when you arrive for us to discuss the work your bike may need. Please notify the mechancics if you would like to be provided with a quote before beginning work, and they will contact you via SMS or phone call once a full bike inspection has been completed. Please note that quotes are indicative, but we will contact you if a quote changes by a significant amount once we commence your bike service.
  • A loan/courtesy electric bike may be available. Please notify us when booking if you require one.
  • We aim to service/repair your bike on the scheduled day, but we will contact you if there are delays (e.g. ordering replacement parts)
  • We will text or call you when you bike is ready for collection. If you haven't heard from us, please contact us before coming to collect your bike in case it is still in progress
  •  Please contact us if you can't make your booking so we can reschedule it
